Twice a year, after Christmas, and after my July birthday, I splurge and buy myself a few items from my Amazon.com wish list. Below are my recent acquisitions:

For the Knitting Library:

* Scarf Style, by Pam Allen:

* Knit Socks, by Betsy McCarthy:

* Knitting for Dummies, by Pam Allen, et al:

* Exquisite Little Knits, by Iris Schreier & Laurie Kimmelstiel:

* Confessions of a Knitting Heretic, by Annie Modesitt:

For the Music Library:

* Bruce Springsteen: Born to Run, 30th Anniversary Edition:

* Bruce Springsteen: Darkness on the Edge of Town:

But just in case you thought it was all fun and games, here's one more purchase to put a damper on the whole she-bang:

(Happy New Year to me. )

You will absolutely love scarf style. I haven't started anything from it yet but I keep looking through it and drooling :)
Let me know what Confessions Of a knitting hereatic is like....... It seems to be one of those books that is hard to get here.

Yeah, there are two or three patterns in Scarf Style I want to start right away when I get the right yarn for them. I started one, but the yarn I have wasn't right, so ripped it out.

"Knitting Heretic" is a self-published book by the author, but if you go to her website, (I can send you a link, if you need it), you can order it directly from her, and I know she has some in stock because I emailed her about it a few weeks ago. I ended up ordering it from Amazon because it was about $6 cheaper from them. I started reading it and it is very interesting. She is a proponent of the "Combination" method of knitting, which is supposedly faster and more even. I've been intrigued, so wanted to learn more. Interestingly enough, she only uses the combination method when she's knitting stockinette stitch on straight needles. If she's knitting garter stitch on straights or stockinette on circulars, she uses western-style knitting. Knowing that, I'm not sure it's worth learning, but it's still interesting.

I love Scarf Style--I recently made the Braided Mischief scarf, and it turned out beautifully. I also have Knit Socks--I learned how to make socks from that book. I like how detailed the instructions are =)

I have Exquisite Little Knits too, but I haven't made anything from there yet!
